Authorities in the Tengnoupal district of Manipur destroyed ten acres of illegal poppy growing

Under the direction of the District Magistrate, security personnel and the Forest Department carried out an operation to demolish illegal poppy plantations in the Khudei Laipham hill range, which is under the jurisdiction of Tengnoupal Police Station, as part of a coordinated effort to combat the cultivation of illegal drugs. About ten acres of illegally grown poppies were destroyed during the operation. To find the people behind the illegal cultivation, authorities have filed a case at Tengnoupal Police Station and are conducting additional investigations.

Manipur Police arrested an active member of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA)/Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF). Shamurailatpam Bipin Sharma, also known as Nanda, 56, was detained and taken into jail from Khongman Mangjil, Zone-I, in Imphal East. According to authorities, Sharma has been extorting money from members of the public, public servants, and educational establishments such as colleges and schools.
