Awareness Programme on SALT Held in Chandel

The Centre for Women and Girls (CWG), in collaboration with Assam Rifles, successfully organized an awareness program on Slope Agricultural Land Techniques (SALT) for the residents of Longja Village in Chandel District. The initiative was aimed at equipping farmers in hilly regions with practical knowledge to enhance productivity while safeguarding the environment.

The session was conducted by David Gandhi, a distinguished agricultural expert from Pune, who shared valuable insights on sustainable farming practices suited to sloped terrains. He elaborated on methods to prevent soil erosion, maintain soil fertility, and improve crop yields through judicious use of fertilizers and eco-friendly techniques. Gandhi also addressed the challenges posed by changing weather patterns and emphasized the importance of adopting adaptive strategies to ensure long-term agricultural sustainability.

The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from villagers and local farmers, who engaged actively in discussions and sought guidance on applying these techniques to their local conditions. Gandhi’s interaction with the participants encouraged them to embrace modern yet sustainable methods that can strengthen their livelihoods, said a press release of IGAR(S).
