Bengaluru Reddit Post Sparks Debate Over ₹1 Lakh Rent for 3BHK in Whitefield

A recent Reddit post questioning a ₹1 lakh monthly rent for a 3BHK apartment in a luxury society in Bengaluru’s Whitefield has triggered a wider debate on the city’s escalating housing costs. The discussion began when a user asked what justifies such a steep rent, even when maintenance charges are included. While some users argued that “premium societies will always demand a premium price,” others felt the cost was excessive and driven more by branding than actual location benefits.
Several commenters pointed to infrastructure challenges in Whitefield, particularly heavy traffic congestion during peak hours. One resident admitted planning to relocate, citing daily traffic bottlenecks near the society’s entry and exit points. Another claimed to live nearby for nearly one-third of the rent, suggesting the higher price may be tied more to the society’s tag than its location.
However, others defended the pricing, saying it reflects market dynamics. “It’s pure demand and supply,” one user noted, adding that property owners can afford to wait for tenants willing to pay the asking price.
In a related development, another Reddit user alleged being scammed by a builder of a Tier-2 property in the city, further fueling conversations around transparency and rising real estate concerns in Bengaluru.
The online exchanges highlight growing public scrutiny over rental trends in the city’s premium housing market.
