Bimol Akoijam visits Bishnupur relief camp, assures support to displaced families

The recently constructed block at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School in the Bishnupur district has “compromised” building quality, which Lok Sabha MP Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has denounced and urged the government to find and hold accountable those involved.Teachers and students deemed the new concrete structure hazardous, therefore classes were still being held in 45-year-old classrooms despite a recent improvement, the MP saw during a campus tour on July 14. Dr. Bimol informed the staff and students that his visit was motivated by initial complaints of structural issues, and his observations validated their worries: a reinforced concrete roof patched with tin sheets to prevent leaks, broken walls, and a clearly wobbly first-floor slab.

He urged the government to make rapid repairs and demanded an immediate investigation into who managed the project and why quality control failed, emphasizing that any collapse would put lives in peril. One of Manipur’s oldest government schools, Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary was established in 1948 and continues to have high enrollment and board exam scores despite the difficulties faced by many public institutions. As a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Dr. Bimol commended the teachers’ commitment and promised his full support for the school’s success.
The MP heard the complaints of internally displaced people at the Kwakta-Santhong relief camp in Bishnupur later that day and urged them to hold onto their hope.
