Bishnupur DC distributes livelihood equipment to IDPs

In a significant step towards rehabilitation and self-reliance, Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam, today led a distribution programme providing livelihood equipment and resources to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd.
A total of 10 looms, 10 sewing machines, 5 popcorn-making machines, 500 chicks, 500 ducklings and 20 bags of poultry feed were distributed to the beneficiaries. These resources are aimed at promoting livelihood generation and skill enhancement, thereby enabling displaced families to rebuild their lives through sustainable income opportunities. While looms and sewing machines will support weaving and tailoring activities, popcorn-making machines are expected to facilitate small-scale food entrepreneurship. The distribution of chicks and poultry feed will further encourage poultry farming as an additional source of livelihood.
Speaking at the occasion, Pooja Elangbam, Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur, reiterated the administration’s commitment to long-term rehabilitation of displaced persons. She stated that the focus extends beyond immediate relief towards restoring dignity and economic independence of affected families. She further highlighted that, with the support of the NHIDCL CSR initiative, the administration is equipping displaced families with the necessary tools to generate sustainable livelihoods and enhance their skills.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the District Administration and NHIDCL, noting that the assistance would help them regain financial stability and actively contribute to the local economy.
