BJP Leaders from Meitei and Kuki Communities Attend Party Meeting in Delhi

Manipur’s BJP legislators from the Meitei and Kuki communities participated in a high-level meeting organized by the party’s central leadership in New Delhi to address escalating political tensions and foster peace. The meeting, attended by key figures including BJP National General Secretary B.L. Santosh and Northeast in-charge Sambit Patra, included 34 MLAs and focused on restoring normalcy and facilitating movement in the state, which has been marred by ethnic violence since May 2023. While the assembly speaker and former chief minister were present, the meeting highlighted the importance of unity among party members to aid developmental progress.

Attendance from the Kuki community was partial, with four of seven legislators present, while three others were absent due to “unavoidable reasons.” Sources indicated that discussions regarding forming a new government were secondary, emphasizing that such talks would resume only after stability is achieved in Manipur, which has been under President’s Rule since February 13 following the resignation of N. Biren Singh.
