BSNL’s indigenous 4G network strengthens India’s digital economy, expands to 26,700 villages

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), C-DOT, and Tejas Networks, today launched the Bharat Telecom Stack, India’s first fully indigenous 4G network. The rollout expands connectivity to 26,700 additional villages, offering consumers faster, more reliable internet for online education, telemedicine, digital payments, e-commerce, and e-governance services.

Executed as a mission-mode project over two years, the network integrates C-DOT’s EPC core applications, Tejas’ base stations and radio infrastructure across 100,000 sites, and TCS’ Cognitive Network Operations platform for round-the-clock monitoring. BSNL CMD A Robert J Ravi described the initiative as “a monumental achievement for national pride,” emphasizing its role in bridging the digital divide and improving everyday connectivity experiences for citizens across urban and rural India.

Faster and more reliable mobile internet will enhance digital payments, online shopping, and streaming services. Local businesses, educational institutions, and healthcare providers can leverage the upgraded network to expand operations and reach more customers. The improved infrastructure is likely to support startups and SMEs, further strengthening  emerging digital economy.

BSNL Director Sandeep Govil highlighted that the network is scalable toward 5G, ensuring India’s homegrown telecom technology continues to empower consumers and foster inclusive digital growth.
