Call for Peace: Ibobi Singh Appeals to Stop Violence During Memorial Event

Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh emphasized that violence is never a solution to societal issues during the 31st death anniversary of Moirangthem Ibotombi, following the tragic killing of Ibotombi by armed assailants. Speaking at the memorial event held at the Moirangthem Ibotombi Memorial Complex, organized by the Moirangthem Ibotombi Memorial Charitable Trust, he called for collective responsibility to eradicate the culture of violence and encouraged citizens to peacefully resolve conflicts for a harmonious Manipur. The event included a photo exhibition of Ibotombi’s life, a blood donation camp that saw around 200 participants, and a pension distribution for approximately 2,300 beneficiaries, reflecting Ibotombi’s legacy of peace and non-violence. The gathering was attended by community leaders and notable figures, affirming Ibotombi’s influence as a respected local leader who was murdered at his home in 1994. The commemorative theme was ‘Hingsi Amadi Hinghansi’ (Peace and Harmony).
