Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh inaugurated three significant projects at Moirangpurel: The Itham Moirangpurel Bridge under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the Model Residential School under Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), and the Science and Arts Block of Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School under Samagra Shiksha, Manipur. He also initiated the upgrade of roads from NH-202 at Lamlai to Thoubal Dam. During the inauguration at Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School, Khemchand Singh addressed concerns about teacher shortages affecting the school’s operation, promising necessary actions to resolve the issue.
In response to reported unlawful activities involving security personnel, the Chief Minister ordered a thorough investigation. He also instructed the deputy commissioner of Imphal East to report on the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Laikhong village, ensuring they receive benefits for mattress purchases through direct benefit transfer.
The Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School, costing approximately Rs 37.86 million, features multiple educational facilities and was financed by Samagra Shiksha Manipur. The Model Residential School’s construction, funded by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, amounted to around Rs 256.2 million. The Itham Moirangpurel Bridge over the Thoubal River, spanning 2.10 km, was built with a sanctioned cost of around Rs 64.58 million by M/s NDS Construction under PMGSY-1.
The road upgrade from NH-202 to Thoubal Dam will connect two major state highways and is projected to complete within a year under the Public Works Department’s supervision. Local MLAs lauded the CM for his support in accelerating development in the region, highlighting the potential benefits of upgrading the road connecting Napet Palli and Ashang Khullen to National Highway status for enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities. The event saw participation from various officials, students, and locals.
