Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has played a vital role in safeguarding Manipur’s boundaries and protecting its interests.
Speaking at the 47th foundation day celebration of the BJP at Rongmei village in Noney district, the Chief Minister recalled that PM Modi had assured in Parliament that Manipur’s territorial integrity would always be preserved.
He also credited Modi for transforming India’s ‘Look East Policy’ into the more proactive ‘Act East Policy’, aimed at enhancing connectivity with Southeast Asian nations through trans-Asian highways.
Singh expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for extending full support to the development and welfare of Manipur. He said the BJP has consistently prioritised the Northeast region.
Highlighting past initiatives, Singh mentioned that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee established the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) to accelerate development in the region.
The Chief Minister attended the event at Longmai Part-3 Multipurpose Hall in Noney district while returning to Imphal after a three-day visit to Jiribam district. He was welcomed by BJP MLA Dipu Gangmei and Rongmei Naga cultural performers.
Along with state BJP President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, Singh hoisted the BJP flag and paid tribute to party ideologues Deendayal Upadhyaya and Syama Prasad Mukherjee.
Earlier, Singh also addressed an election rally in Assam’s Barak Valley in support of BJP candidates, noting the significant presence of Manipuri communities in the region. Assembly elections in Assam are scheduled for April 9, with results to be declared on May 4.
