COCOMI holds massive rally in Imphal to protect territorial integrity of Manipur

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) on Saturday organised a massive public rally in Imphal to press for the protection of Manipur’s territorial and social integrity and restoration of a popular government in the state.
Regretting that hundreds of displaced families are yet to be rehabilitated, the civil society group leaders said that they organised this rally to convey the sentiment of the people who want that all those displaced should be resettled and free movement along all the highways must be restored.
Taking part in the “Save Manipur” rally, protesters raised slogans demanding the protection of democratic rights, immediate resettlement of IDPs and the restoration of a popular government in Manipur.
“We are participating in this rally to reiterate our stand that Manipur’s territorial and administrative integrity must not be broken at any cost. We cannot compromise on this,” said Bidyaluxmi Oinam.
Another demonstrator, Khagembam Surjit, said, “The land of Manipur was built by our forefathers, and not by illegal immigrants from Myanmar.”
Kukis share ethnic ties with the Chin community people of Myanmar.
Security has been tightened across the capital in view of the rally.
