Security forces in Manipur have intensified their crackdown on insurgent activities, arresting five active cadres linked to proscribed militant outfits in a series of coordinated operations across Imphal East, Thoubal, and Bishnupur districts on July 11 and 12. These arrests mark a significant development in the state’s ongoing efforts to restore peace and dismantle militant networks operating in the region. In one of the major operations, two operatives of the banned outfit Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) were apprehended from Laikhong, under Thoubal Dam Police Station in Imphal East district. The accused have been identified as Sagolshem Lalit Meitei (36) of Itham Mamang Leikai and Ahongshangbam Tomba Singh of Itham Wangma Leikai. Another arrest was made in the Imphal East district when security personnel captured Khumukcham Abosana Singh (24), an active member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-APUNBA), from his residence at Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai under Porompat Police Station.
In Thoubal district, a high-profile operative of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) was arrested. Identified as Meisnam Manglemnganba Meitei, also known by his aliases Chumthangkhanba or Naotomba (27), he was nabbed at Wangjing Bazar. According to police, he was actively involved in extortion, recruitment drives for the outfit, and issuing monetary demands in Thoubal and Bishnupur districts. Several incriminating items were seized from him, including a mobile phone, SIM card, Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID, and a money bag. In Bishnupur district, Thingujam Ramesh Singh, alias Alex or Pinky (31), an operative of KCP (Taibanganba), was arrested from Tronglaobi Bazar under Moirang Police Station. He had allegedly been threatening government officials, businessmen, and members of the public while engaging in extortion activities. A mobile phone and two SIM cards were recovered from his possession.
These arrests are part of a broader state-wide campaign aimed at neutralising militant threats and ensuring public safety. Authorities confirmed that all the accused are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to uncover further links and operations related to their respective outfits. Simultaneously, the Manipur Police are also enforcing strict action against traffic rule violators. On July 12, a total of 24 challans were issued, collecting fines amounting to ₹43,500. The previous day, police had detained 25 vehicles for violations such as lack of registration certificates, absence of number plates, and use of unauthorized tinted films, which were removed from 16 vehicles.
