Five militants held in Manipur valley, arms and ammunition seized

Security forces arrested five militants belonging to different banned outfits from the valley districts of Manipur, police said on Friday.According to a police statement, the arrests were made during separate operations carried out in two districts over the past few days. During the operations, at least 10 firearms and a cache of ammunition were recovered.Police said an active cadre of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army was apprehended from Koirengei Manung Laikhon Leikai area in Imphal East district on February 25. The operation was conducted based on specific inputs about the movement of underground cadres in the area.

Officials said the arrested individuals are suspected to be involved in unlawful activities linked to banned organisations operating in the state. The recovered weapons include different types of firearms and ammunition, though police have not disclosed further details about the exact models.The police stated that the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to curb militant activities in Manipur, particularly in the valley districts where security forces have stepped up surveillance and search operations in recent months.

Sources said coordinated operations were carried out by police and other security agencies to track the movement of militants. The seizures are being examined as part of the investigation.
