Former Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh was sworn in as the 25th Governor of Mizoram

Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi of the Gauhati High Court swore in former Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh as the 25th Governor of Mizoram today on the Raj Bhavan’s circular lawn. Chief Minister Lalduhoma, his cabinet colleagues, Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama, Deputy Speaker Lalfamkima, Members of Parliament, key officials, and special guests attended the oath-taking event.

The swearing-in event was also attended by Zoramthanga and Lal Thanhawla, the two former chief ministers of Mizoram. General VK Singh, who was born on May 10, 1951, was the 24th Chief of Army Staff from 2010 to 2012. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014 after retiring from the military, and in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he was elected on a BJP ticket to represent Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad constituency.

He held the positions of Minister of State for External Affairs, Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region, and Minister of State for Statistics and Program Implementation during the first term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During his second tenure, Modi served as Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Road Transport and Highways. According to an official statement, Singh sought Maa Kamakhya’s divine blessings at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati prior to traveling to Aizawl on Wednesday.
