On Sunday, security forces in Manipur’s Imphal West district apprehended four individuals associated with extortion activities linked to the UNLF (Pambei) and SOREPA. Two members of UNLF (Pambei) were arrested near Keystone Infra Pvt Ltd, identified as Ningthoujam Nongpoknganba Meitei (31) and Konthoujam Nelson Singh alias Thomba (23). Authorities confiscated a Maruti Swift vehicle, four mobile phones, a sling bag, and two identity cards from them. Despite having signed a peace agreement with the Centre in 2023, some UNLF (Pambei) members persist in illegal activities. Simultaneously, two extortionists from SOREPA were arrested under Lamphel police station.
They are Chungkham Nanao Macha alias Mitlang (24) and Arambam Thoithoi Singh (41), with cash and valuable items seized, including Rs 3,90,500, three mobile phones, and two Aadhaar cards. In another operation, security forces uncovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition in Ngairangbam Mayai Lambi Loukon, comprising two single barrel guns, grenades, an SMG magazine, rounds of ammunition, and two radio sets.
