Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, addressed the 2026 North-East Seminar titled “Resurgent Manipur: Framework for Stability & Sustained Growth” in Imphal. He emphasized Manipur’s resilience, cultural heritage, and strategic location, highlighting collaborative efforts among the government, security forces, civil society, and community stakeholders in fostering peace and development. The Governor advocated for reconciliation, social cohesion, effective governance, improved border management, and the combating of organized crime. He also recognized Manipur’s vast potential in sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, handloom, handicrafts, eco-tourism, and sports, stressing the need for increased investment in education, skill development, and youth empowerment. The seminar featured three plenary sessions, notably led by Lt Gen CA Krishnan, who described the evolving security challenges and governance issues in Manipur. Additionally, anthropologist Rami N. Desai presented insights on the internal turmoil in Manipur influenced by external dynamics such as illegal immigration and narcotics. The event concluded with participation from key security officials, academic leaders, and students, reflecting a comprehensive discourse on the state’s future.
