Gujarat SIR: 12.5 lakh petitions for deletions and 6.5 lakh applications for insertion

Election officials in Gujarat are now working on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral records, and they have received numerous requests to add, remove, and modify voter information throughout the state, according to poll officials. Before the draft electoral roll was released on December 19, 2025, the voter revision process, which began on October 27, 2025, finished its enumeration phase. Official data shows that up until Thursday, 6,54,594 applications in Form-6 and Form-6A were received to add names to the final electoral roll.

In the same time frame, 12,59,229 Form-7 applications for name deletion were filed, while 5,04,835 Form-8 applications for information correction and residence change were received. With 97,664 Form-6 and Form-6A applications, Ahmedabad had the most, followed by Surat with 54,797 and Vadodara with 34,373. On the other hand, districts like Aravalli (3,805), Narmada (3,120), and Dang (2,625) reported applications. With 2,40,549 Form-7 applications, Ahmedabad once again topped the list, followed by Surat with 1,10,286 and Kheda with 1,35,174. Junagadh recorded 61,237 deletion requests, whilst Bharuch reported 91,169.

Banaskantha had 32,923 inclusion applications, Bhavnagar had 29,295, Rajkot had 28,257, and Panchmahal had 20,771. Banaskantha reported 60,543 deletions, Jamnagar reported 44,350, Bhavnagar reported 40,555, and Gir Somnath reported 34,007. Dang and Chhota Udepur, two smaller districts, had 506 and 943 deletion applications, respectively. Claims and objections may be filed until January 30, 2026, according to election officials, after which verification and disposal will take place concurrently.
