Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Shah’s residence in New Delhi, marking their first meeting since Khemchand assumed office on February 4. Accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers Losii Dikho of the Naga People’s Front and Nemcha Kipgen of the BJP, the discussion focused on the new government’s initiatives aimed at fostering peace and harmony among Manipur’s diverse communities. Amit Shah expressed support from the Central Government for these efforts and emphasized the importance of addressing the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur. Khemchand’s visit coincided with preparations for a cabinet expansion, as the state currently operates with five ministers.
Additionally, upon arriving in Delhi, Khemchand honored the late Vungzagin Valte at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, paying his last respects through a floral tribute and expressing condolences to the grieving family. This somber occasion included a prayer service for the deceased and attracted dignitaries and community leaders who gathered to offer their respects. A condolence meeting followed, attended by Khemchand and several MLAs, bereaved family members, and Zomi community leaders based in Delhi, highlighting a collective moment of mourning and reflection on the loss.
