Sunbird Trust, a NGO, has visited the IDP camp at Ideal Girls’ College, Akampat, to discuss educational scholarships for over 500 students, including 182 from the Akampat camp. The team, led by founders Col Christopher Rego and Myrna Rego, engaged with over 150 parents and children, expressing gratitude for the financial assistance provided and the positive impact on their children’s education. Some parents requested additional support, particularly for tuition fees for Class 10 students and vocational training opportunities.
Founder Col Christopher Rego emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting children for the long term and assured the audience that team members would visit the camp regularly to better understand individual challenges and resolve students’ academic difficulties. Sunbird Trust has been at the forefront of relief efforts since the conflict began, providing essential supplies to IDP camps across the region. The NGO is currently awarding scholarships to over 7,000 students across the state and has supported the vocational training of 130 students through training camps conducted by the Assam Rifles and the BSF. Sunbird Trust has also facilitated the relocation of several students to various schools and extended support to students pursuing courses in nursing, pharmacy, computer science, and other disciplines at colleges in different parts of India.
