The Manipur government will conduct a major state-level air raid mock drill—titled Operation Abhyaas—across key locations in Imphal today at 4:00 PM to assess and enhance emergency preparedness. Organised by the Imphal West District Administration, the simulation aims to test the Civil Defence system’s response to a potential hostile aerial attack. The exercise will include realistic scenarios such as air raid sirens, blackout protocols, evacuation drills, and search-and-rescue operations.
“This exercise will strengthen inter-agency coordination and train civilians on basic survival techniques during emergencies,” said Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh. Participants include the Police, Fire Department, Civil Defence, SDRF, NDRF, Health Department, MSPDCL, and officials from educational institutions and museums. Key sites for the drill include Johnstone Higher Secondary School, State Museum, BT Park, Polo Ground (Mapal Kangjeibung), and the Directorate of Fire Service.
Residents have been advised to remain calm and cooperate as emergency vehicles, sirens, and public address systems will be active. Authorities emphasised the drill is purely precautionary and meant to boost regional disaster response capacity.
