On India’s Independence Day, four Indian Air Force (IAF) officers will get the coveted Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal in a unique and historic ceremony, according to sources. The importance of Operation Sindoor is highlighted by the fact that the IAF has been awarded this wartime honor for the first time since the Kargil War. Two army officers and one navy officer will also be honored, making seven high-ranking military individuals who have been recognized for their outstanding service.
India’s highest wartime distinguished service honor, the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal, was established in 1980 and is given for “the most exceptional order” of operational service, fusing prestige with a wartime setting. It serves as the wartime counterpart of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal. India’s strong military response to the Pahalgam terror assault on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists, was Operation Sindoor, which took place from May 7 to May 10. Targeted attacks against military and terrorist targets throughout Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir were part of the campaign.
India’s most notable surface-to-air combat victory, according to IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, involved the downing of five Pakistani fighter fighters and one huge military aircraft. In addition to military honors, the Border Security Force (BSF) will also be honored. Of the 1,090 service medals being given out on Independence Day, 16 servicemen will receive heroism medals for their “conspicuous bravery and unmatched valour” during Operation Sindoor.
