India’s second-largest software services exporter, Infosys, has revealed that artificial intelligence (AI) services accounted for 5.5 per cent of its total revenue in the December quarter, marking the first time the company has separately disclosed its AI business contribution.
CEO Salil Parekh said the AI segment is growing at a robust pace and remains highly dynamic. Infosys is currently working on around 4,600 AI projects and has developed more than 500 AI agents. Its AI offerings include autonomous agents and embedded systems designed for physical devices and hardware integration. The disclosure comes at a time when India’s $283 billion IT sector is facing investor concerns over AI-driven disruption to traditional outsourcing models. IT stocks have recently witnessed sharp declines amid fears that advanced AI tools could accelerate automation and reduce demand for labor-intensive services.
Infosys reported third-quarter revenue of ₹45,479 crore ($5.01 billion). Rival Tata Consultancy Services has indicated that its AI services generate approximately $1.8 billion annually, contributing about 5.8 per cent of total revenue. In a strategic move, Infosys also announced a collaboration with Anthropic to establish a dedicated center for building and deploying AI agents, initially targeting telecom clients before expanding into financial services, manufacturing, and software development.
The announcement coincides with India hosting the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi from February 16–20, underscoring the country’s growing focus on AI-led innovation and digital transformation.
