A sit-in protest was held at Tejpur Primary School Ground, Kakching district, in connection with the killing of one Chingakham Malemnganba (51), son of Parijat of Tejpur Awang Leikai, by unidentified persons at Keirak Makha Leikai under Kakching Police Station on Friday at around 6.30 pm.
In response to the murder, a Joint Action Committee Against the Brutal Killing of Chingakham Malemnganba, Tejpur Awang Leikai, was formed. The JAC has announced that if the government does not apprehend the murderers on or before March 16, they will not claim the body.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) strongly condemned the inhuman and barbaric act committed against an innocent citizen.
According to a statement issued by the JAC, the victim was brutally killed on March 13 at around 5:30 PM, an incident that has deeply shocked the people and created fear and anger among the public.
The JAC expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the bereaved family members who are going through immense pain and hardship due to this tragic incident.
The JAC firmly demanded that the concerned authorities conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into this brutal killing that took place on March 13 at around 5:30 PM and identify all individuals involved in the crime on or before March 16. The perpetrators must be arrested at the earliest and punished according to the law without any delay.
Until and unless the culprits involved in this brutal killing are identified and arrested, the JAC and the family members will not accept the dead body of the deceased. This decision has been taken as a mark of protest and to ensure that justice is delivered to the victim and his family, the statement added.
The JAC also appealed to the government and law enforcement agencies to take immediate and concrete actions, including the swift arrest of all culprits involved in the killing of Chingakham Malemnganba.
Moreover, ensuring proper protection and security to the family members and conducting a transparent and time-bound investigation so that justice is not delayed were also included in the list.
The JAC also appealed to the public, civil society organizations, and concerned authorities to extend cooperation and support in ensuring justice for the victim.
The committee warned that if the authorities fail to take appropriate action on or before March 16, the JAC will be compelled to initiate democratic forms of agitation in the interest of justice.
