Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma jointly launched the North East Apprenticeship Pilot Scheme to enhance youth employability through paid, structured apprenticeships. The Rs 43.94 crore initiative by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) aims to benefit over 26,000 youth with an additional Rs 1,500 monthly stipend for one year, supplementing the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
Minister Chaudhary termed the scheme a “defining moment,” offering real-world industry exposure and highlighting the North East’s leadership in women-led skilling. Chief Minister Lalduhoma emphasized the region’s literacy and heritage skills, asserting the plan will empower youth through practical, inclusive training pathways.
With direct benefit transfers, guaranteed placements, and skill certification through partnerships like the NSDC-Welspun MoU, local stakeholders anticipate a surge in job-ready candidates for textiles, retail, and service sectors. The scheme will be implemented by IIE Guwahati and NSDC, supported by state missions. A Rs 60,000 crore national ITI upgradation plan was also unveiled, reinforcing India’s commitment to building a future-ready workforce with the North East as a key driver of transformation.
