In a major counter-insurgency drive aimed at restoring law and order in strife-torn Manipur, joint security forces comprising the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) launched a series of coordinated operations across the state, recovering a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosive materials.
The week-long operation, conducted between June 30 and July 6, spanned both the hill and valley districts of Manipur, including Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Tengnoupal, Imphal East, and Imphal West. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the forces moved swiftly to target suspected insurgent hideouts, militant bunkers, and arms caches.
During the crackdown, four insurgents affiliated with various hill and valley-based militant outfits were apprehended. Officials confirmed that all arrested individuals are currently under the custody of Manipur Police for detailed investigation and further legal proceedings.
The operations yielded significant recoveries, underlining the intensity of the insurgent presence and the effectiveness of the intelligence-led approach. Among the items seized were:
62 weapons, including automatic assault rifles, mortars, and locally-made firearms
30 improvised explosive devices (IEDs)
Grenades and large quantities of live ammunition
Radio communication devices and war-like stores
The destruction of hidden militant bunkers and temporary outposts
Security forces carried out simultaneous raids, carefully coordinated to minimize civilian disruptions and to prevent any possibility of insurgents fleeing or relocating their assets.
