Kamjong Firing Leaves Two Wounded, TNFO Voices Strong Condemnation

On Tuesday morning in the Kamjong district of Manipur, two individuals suffered gunshot injuries when armed assailants opened fire in Sharkaphung village. The victims, Ringyui Ramror (22) and Raichan Lungleng (34), both from the Tangkhul Naga community, sustained bullet wounds to their legs and feet and were subsequently transported to a hospital in Ukhrul district for medical treatment. Reports indicate that the gunfire originated from Mongkot Chepu, situated approximately one kilometer away from Sharkaphung. This area has previously witnessed violent clashes between the Kuki and Tangkhul Naga communities, particularly in February, which resulted in the destruction of over 30 homes. In light of the recent violence, the Central Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Foothills Organisation raised serious concerns regarding the situation, asserting that Kuki militants associated with the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement may be involved. The organization criticized the insufficient deployment of security forces, arguing that this has left vulnerable areas exposed and placed civilian lives at risk. They have called for urgent intervention and an increased presence of state forces in both Sharkaphung and the nearby Thoyee village to ensure the safety of the local population.
