Maharashtra doctors extracted a half-kilo hairball from a girl’s stomach

A 10-year-old girl’s stomach had a hairball that weighed almost half a kilogram removed surgically by specialists in Amravati, Maharashtra, in a startling and worrisome medical instance. She was sent to a private hospital 20 days ago, where she received counseling and a battery of medical examinations. She disclosed her lifelong practice of eating hair during this process, which is known as trichophagia and is frequently connected to the mental illness trichotillomania. According to pediatric surgeon Dr. Usha Gajbhiye, who conducted the procedure, the girl’s symptoms indicated a severe intestinal problem.

She told reporters, “A hairball was discovered in her stomach after a medical examination showed a large mass there.” The surgical team made the decision a few days ago to go ahead with an operation. “A 500-gram hairball was successfully extracted from her stomach,” Dr. Gajbhiye stated. She is recuperating nicely from the surgery and may now eat as she should. Doctors predict that the young child will require continuous counseling to address the underlying behavioral disorders before she is released from the hospital. This rare occurrence emphasizes how crucial it is to identify odd behavioral patterns in kids and get them medical help as soon as possible.
