Major drug bust in Kangpokpi: Nearly 10 kg of suspected brown sugar seized, three held

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Kangpokpi Police seized 225 soap cases containing nearly 10 kilograms of suspected brown sugar during a carefully coordinated operation on Tuesday. The seizure, weighing 9.844 kg including packaging, resulted in the arrest of three individuals allegedly involved in the illegal trade.

The operation was launched following specific intelligence regarding drug transportation in the district. A joint team led by Additional SP (Law & Order) Kangpokpi, SDPO Kangpokpi, SDPO Saparmeina, and OC Kangpokpi Police Station, in collaboration with personnel from the 16 Assam Rifles and 112 Battalion CRPF, carried out the operation from 1 PM on October 14, 2025, under the supervision of Abhinav, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Veineichong Lhungdim and Thongkhopao Lhungdim, a couple from C. Munnom Village, Saitu Gamphajol, and Thangminlun Haokip from T. Thangkan Village, Saikul. Authorities also seized the vehicles allegedly used in the drug transport, including an Alto car, a diesel auto, and four mobile phones suspected to have been used for coordination of the illegal network.

Police confirmed that the accused are now in custody, and investigations are ongoing to trace the origin and distribution network of the consignment. The operation marks a major step in Kangpokpi’s ongoing fight against narcotics, with law enforcement agencies emphasizing their commitment to curbing drug trafficking and dismantling criminal networks operating in the region.
