Manipur-Based Outfit Levels Drug Trafficking Allegation Against Former MLA

The Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) has accused former Manipur MLA Md Fajur Rahim of participating in a drug trafficking network that transported banned substances to Bangladesh using an ambulance linked to the Congress party in 2021. The vehicle traversed Manipur, Assam, and Meghalaya. The KCP (PWG), which is proscribed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, alleged that Rahim leveraged his political connections for his drug operations, mentioning his associate Hefaj Uddin. Uddin was arrested on July 22, 2023, during a drug bust that yielded drugs valued at around Rs 5 crore, found in a Maruti Swift Dzire. A related case under the NDPS Act is ongoing in the Additional District and Sessions Judge’s court in Karbi Anglong. The KCP (PWG) further reported another seizure involving 207 grams of heroin worth about Rs 14 crore and 50,000 YABA tablets, intercepted by Guwahati Police from an ambulance. This ambulance, registered as MN03 C 0037, was also implicated in transporting drugs from Manipur to Bangladesh. The drugs were intercepted in the context of another arrest of Mirajaul Islam from Meghalaya. The ambulance was officially flagged off on May 21, 2021, during a Congress event commemorating the 30th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
