Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to development in both the hills and valley regions since 2017, despite facing numerous challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and ethnic violence. Speaking to reporters on February 3, Singh emphasized that the BJP-led government has remained steadfast in its development agenda, even in the face of adversity.
“The government has not stopped its work, despite setbacks. Although the pandemic and the ongoing ethnic violence have delayed many projects, we continue to focus on the growth of both the hills and the valley,” Singh said. He acknowledged that over two years were lost due to the COVID-19 crisis, and the ongoing ethnic clashes, which began on May 3, 2023, have claimed over 250 lives and displaced thousands.
During his second term, the Chief Minister highlighted significant strides made in various sectors, such as infrastructure, despite the challenging environment. Singh also laid the foundation stone for the construction of multi-storied government quarters at Langol in Imphal West district. Similar facilities will be developed at New Checkon in Imphal.
Singh urged citizens to prioritize environmental preservation, cleanliness, and proper drainage systems. “The government is also focusing on rejuvenating Lamphalpat wetlands, which will become a recreational space upon completion,” he added.
