Manipur Congress protests ED action, calls it ‘attack on democracy’

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) held a protest on Wednesday in front of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office at Chingmeirong, joining the nationwide agitation against what the party has called the “arbitrary” actions by the central agency in the National Herald case.

Leading the protest, MPCC president Keisham Meghachandra alleged that the BJP-led central government is misusing agencies like the ED to target opposition leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. “This is nothing but vendetta politics. The ED is being used as a tool to intimidate and silence opposition voices,” Meghachandra said.

Former Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh also addressed the media, calling the ED’s actions “unjust and politically motivated.” He said the case was part of a broader attempt to weaken democracy and tarnish national institutions. “This is not just a Congress issue—it’s about protecting the democratic framework of the country,” Singh added.
