In a major move to address the ongoing crisis in Manipur, a 19-member delegation of key Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) from the state held a high-level meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in the national capital today. The delegation, which included representatives from COCOMI, AMUCO, and FOCS, presented a detailed list of urgent demands during the three-and-a-half-hour meeting attended by MHA Advisor (Northeast) A.K. Mishra and Intelligence Bureau Joint Director Rajesh Kamble.
Key demands included an immediate rollout of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur to curb illegal immigration, and a time-bound resettlement plan for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) within this year. The CSOs strongly opposed any further extension of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreements with insurgent groups without statewide consensus. The delegation also insisted on future peace talks being held in Imphal to ensure local participation, and reaffirmed their stance on preserving Manipur’s territorial integrity.
Other issues raised included the illegal construction of a 343-km road, the long-delayed Gwaltabi incident report, and farmer safety concerns. MHA officials assured that all points raised would be reviewed and acted upon. The delegation will return to Imphal on July 2 and is expected to brief the public soon.
