Manipur DGP vows tough crackdown on drug offenders, including police personnel

Manipur Director General of Police Rajiv Singh has declared a firm stance against drug-related crimes, warning that strict action will be taken against all offenders, including members of the police force. Speaking to the media during the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ motorcycle rally in Imphal on Tuesday, Singh highlighted that the drug problem is not limited to Manipur but is a growing challenge across the entire Northeast region. He emphasized that the police are committed to fighting the menace with full determination.

“We want to make it clear: anyone involved in drug trafficking, whether a policeman or a civilian, will face severe consequences,” Singh said. “This issue affects our youth and future generations. Our response will be ruthless and unwavering, no matter who is involved.”The DGP’s statement follows the recent suspension of five police officers, including an inspector, due to serious misconduct and failure to perform their duties. Authorities revealed that these suspensions are connected to bribery allegations involving the release of drug peddlers caught with narcotics.

Among those suspended is Sub Inspector Debson Singh, who was arrested in 2013 for allegedly transporting drugs valued at over ₹3 crore to Moreh in Tengnoupal district. The police force in Manipur is intensifying efforts to dismantle drug networks and ensure accountability within its ranks, signaling a strong message against corruption and crime.
