Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday emphasised the government’s efforts to restore peace in the violence-hit state by initiating dialogue among leaders and communities. During a visit to Churachandpur, Governor Bhalla inaugurated a prefabricated house for internally displaced persons (IDPs) at New Zalenphai, assuring that measures are underway to help families return home soon. “I want peace to return quickly, and all of you should be able to go back to your homes as early as possible. The government is working for peace talks among different leaders and communities to ensure that peace returns to the state,” he said.
Since May 2023, clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities have resulted in over 260 deaths and displaced thousands, with the state remaining under President’s Rule since February 2025.Later, Bhalla met representatives of the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Churachandpur to discuss infrastructure, education, and administrative issues. The KZC raised demands including improved road connectivity in Kuki-majority districts, healthcare upgrades in Moreh, clearance of student scholarships, and establishment of a Manipur Public Service Commission. The Governor assured that these concerns would be addressed with priority.
During the day, he also visited IDP resettlement camps at Torbung, inaugurated a Crèche Centre, distributed relief materials, and felicitated meritorious students, including two NEET-2025 qualifiers. He held interactive sessions with MLAs, civil society groups, and student leaders while reviewing security arrangements with senior Army, Assam Rifles, and police officials.The Governor concluded his visit at Geljang Resort, where he was welcomed with a traditional Mizo dance, underlining efforts to promote cultural unity alongside peace-building measures.
