Manipur MLA lauds Modi, Shah as Imphal-Dimapur highway reopens after two years

In a significant development for Manipur’s connectivity and economy, the Imphal-Dimapur Road (National Highway-2) is set to reopen after remaining shut for nearly two years. The breakthrough comes following extensive consultations facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) with stakeholders and civil society organisations (CSOs), marking what many see as a turning point in restoring normalcy in the state.

The reopening of the highway, which serves as a lifeline linking Manipur to Nagaland and the rest of the country, is expected to revive trade, commerce, and social interactions that had been severely disrupted. The prolonged closure not only affected businesses and daily commuters but also deepened social divides and strained the state’s already fragile economy.Welcoming the decision, Khemchand Singh, MLA of Singjamei Assembly Constituency, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their leadership and commitment in resolving the issue. “The people of Manipur have suffered greatly during the closure of this vital road. With its reopening, we can look forward to a return of normal life, stronger community bonds, and renewed economic opportunities,” Singh said.

He also extended appreciation to officials of the MHA, local stakeholders, and CSOs whose persistent efforts and cooperation made the resolution possible. Singh further appealed to the people of Manipur to put aside past grievances and to work together in building a progressive and inclusive society, rooted in the spirit of communal harmony and mutual respect.
