Manipur Police arrest four in twin operations, seize illegal arms and ammunition

Manipur Police, along with other security forces, carried out two separate operations in Manipur on Tuesday, December 23, leading to the arrest of four persons and the seizure of illegal arms and ammunition. The operations were conducted in different parts of Imphal East district as part of the ongoing drive to curb the circulation of illegal weapons and strengthen public safety.

In the first operation, teams from Manipur Police arrested two individuals from areas falling under Porompat Police Station. The arrested persons were identified as Thingujam Suresh Singh (40), also known as Bimol or Ibohanbi, a native of Sekmaijin Khunou in Kakching district who was currently staying at Khurai Tongbram Leirak, and Moirangthem Dayamoi (39) of Khurai Soibam Leikai. Police said both were picked up from their respective residences following specific inputs.

During the search operations, the police recovered a .32 pistol with a magazine loaded with one live round. A BAOFENG handheld wireless communication set with charger, two mobile phones, and one Aadhaar card were also seized. Officials said the recovered items point to possible unlawful activities, and further investigation is being carried out to find out the source of the weapon and the purpose for which it was kept.

In a second operation on the same day, security forces arrested two alleged arms smugglers from Keibi Awang Leikai Yaibirel under Sagolmang Police Station. The accused were identified as Lisham Naoba Singh, also known as Leichin (38), a resident of Uyumpok Mamang Leikai, and Laishram Chingkhei Meitei, also known as Thouba (23), a resident of Sugnu Tangjeng Bazar.
