Manipur Police arrest six militants in major crackdown across four districts

In a major crackdown against insurgent activities, Manipur Police arrested six militants belonging to banned outfits in a series of coordinated operations carried out across Thoubal, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts on October 26. The raids were part of an ongoing effort to dismantle insurgent networks and curb extortion activities that have been troubling civilians and officials in the valley region. According to police officials, the operations were conducted simultaneously based on specific intelligence inputs about the movement of militants and their illegal activities. Security personnel recovered a range of incriminating materials, including mobile phones, SIM cards, demand letters, seals, and other communication devices during the arrests. In the first operation at Heirok Part-II, Khangarok, in Thoubal district, police arrested Bhramhacharimayum Ratankumar Sharma, also known as Mangal, aged 43. He was identified as an active member of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA). Officers recovered two mobile phones and two SIM cards from his residence.

In another operation in Wangjing, also in Thoubal district, police detained Haobijam Thoibi Devi, 35, also known as Chanu, who was identified as an active woman cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive Wing Group) or KCP (PWG). According to police, she was actively involved in extortion activities targeting business owners and government staff in the district. During the search, officers seized 59 demand letters, two official seals, two stamp pads, a mobile phone with SIM card, and several documents linked to the banned group. In Imphal West district, two militants from the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) were arrested at Thongkhong Luxmi Bazar. The arrested individuals were identified as Longjam Yaiphaba Angom, aged 30, also called Nanao, and Oinam Henba Singh, aged 37. Police said the duo had been threatening government officials, medical staff, and college employees to extort money in the name of the group. During the raid, officers seized a white Hyundai Verna (registration MN05A 6564), two mobile phones, and an Aadhaar card.

Meanwhile, in Kakching district, police detained two suspected members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (MFL) from the Hiyanglam Terapishak Sekmaijin area. The arrested individuals were identified as Elangbam Lamyanba Meitei, 29, also known as Abungcha, and Laishram Indrakumar Singh, 25. They were reportedly engaged in collecting money from local traders and transporters on behalf of their outfit. Police recovered two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card from them.
