Manipur police have arrested three individuals in a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, seizing large quantities of narcotics and psychotropic substances across multiple districts. Authorities are investigating further and have urged public cooperation in curbing illegal drug activities. In the most notable operation, 51-year-old Md Muhammad Iboyai from Borayangbi Mayai Leikai in Moirang sub-division, Bishnupur district, was apprehended outside Tengnoupal police station on October 23. Officers recovered approximately one kilogramme of WY tablets—containing the psychotropic substance Yaba—along with a two-wheeler, mobile phone, and Aadhaar card.
Earlier, 54-year-old Md Bogimayum Khommei from Paobitek Maning Leikai, Wangoi sub-division, Imphal West district, was detained near Martyrs Park along National Highway 2 under Mao police station jurisdiction in Senapati district. Police confiscated nine soap cases containing 119 grammes of brown sugar, in addition to a mobile phone, ID documents, and a carrying bag.
On October 21, security personnel arrested 26-year-old Sagomsungpham Sohail from Khomidok Mayai Leikai, Imphal East district. The raid led to the seizure of 91 bottles of Tusserex-TR cough syrup, a commonly misused psychotropic substance, along with Rs 12,780 in cash and a mobile phone.
