Manipur police have arrested two individuals in separate raids carried out in Thoubal and Imphal districts, seizing a large quantity of restricted drugs and cannabis. The arrests mark another step in the state’s ongoing fight against the illegal drug trade, which continues to pose a serious challenge to public health and safety. In the first case, police raided a residence in Thoubal district on September 9 and arrested a 35-year-old woman identified as Ruhina of Sangaiyumpham Cherapur Mathak Leikai. The operation was conducted under the jurisdiction of the Thoubal police station.
During the search, officers recovered 120 capsules of SAMPFX+, 29 bottles of TUSSREX-TR cough syrup, and eight empty concealment cases, along with several identity documents. The seized pharmaceutical items, which are often misused as narcotics, were taken into custody for further investigation. Police said the raid was carried out following intelligence inputs about the illegal storage of controlled substances. On the same day, another operation was launched in Imphal West district, where police apprehended a 22-year-old man named Bangkin Oinam of Heingang Mayai Leikai. He was picked up from the busy North AOC area under Imphal police station. From his possession, police recovered 6.955 kilograms of cannabis, which was immediately seized.
Officials confirmed that both accused individuals have been booked and further investigations are underway to trace possible links to larger drug networks. Authorities said these cases reflect the state’s tough stance against narcotics trafficking and its determination to cut off the flow of illegal substances that harm young people and communities.
