Manipur releases draft electoral rolls ahead of 2025 assembly polls

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur, Pradeep Kumar Jha, announced today the release of the Draft Photo Electoral Rolls for the state’s 60 Assembly Constituencies. This move, in line with the Election Commission of India’s schedule, marks an essential step toward the 2025 Assembly elections and is intended to promote transparency and voter engagement across the state. The draft electoral rolls are now accessible at the offices of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant EROs, and they can also be reviewed on the CEO’s official website, ceomanipur.nic.in. Both national and state-recognized political parties will receive a free copy of the rolls, with additional copies available for a fee. To improve accessibility, DVD-ROMs of the rolls will also be offered for sale.

According to the new draft, the gender ratio has slightly increased to 1069, while the Elector Population Ratio has decreased to 54.84% from 55.54% in January 2024. The total number of registered voters now stands at 2,034,660, marking an increase of 8,037 voters from the previous year, with polling stations unchanged at 2,955. The Special Summary Revision (SSR) process, effective today, will enable citizens to enroll, update, or delete their names from the rolls. Claims and objections can be submitted from October 29 to November 28, with special campaign days scheduled for November 9 and 10. The final electoral roll is set for release on January 6, 2025.

To encourage youth participation, the CEO is launching awareness campaigns in colleges and universities, setting up Electoral Literacy Clubs, and organizing voter registration camps. The “Eikhoi Voter Challasi” SVEEP campaign will see mobile information vans touring the state to promote electoral inclusiveness.
