Manipur security forces bust arms network, arrest militants and seize cache of weapons

Security forces in Manipur have successfully arrested four individuals, including two active militants, and seized a significant stockpile of arms and ammunition in a series of operations across the state. These efforts are part of ongoing initiatives to maintain peace and prevent insurgent activities in the region.

On April 17, 2025, two cadres of the banned militant group KYKL were apprehended by security forces during an operation in Wangjing Khabakhong, Thoubal district. The arrested individuals, Mutum Ranjan Meitei (21) and Ngasepam Barlin Singh (23), were found in possession of hand grenades, mobile phones, Aadhaar and PAN cards, a two-wheeler, and other items related to their activities.

In a separate operation on April 16, two men, Chinsonlun (30) and Lamsuanlal Tombing (29), were arrested after a viral video surfaced showing armed miscreants in an undisclosed location under Churachandpur police jurisdiction. The authorities are investigating their involvement in illegal activities.

Simultaneously, security forces launched search operations across various districts, recovering a large cache of weapons and explosives. Key seizures include:

From Chingkhei Ching (Imphal East): A 7.62 SLR rifle, 12-bore SBBL guns, a 7.65mm pistol, grenades, live ammunition of various calibers, bulletproof jackets, and detonator components.

From Saivom Village (Tengnoupal district): Country-made 9mm pistols, hand grenades, IEDs, and Pompi shells.

From Khongnaobi Canal Road (Imphal West): An AK rifle, SLR, carbine machine gun, modified single-barrel gun, riot control munitions, and bulletproof vests.

From Wabagai Buffalo Farm area (Kakching district): A .303 rifle, grenades, stun shells, and tactical equipment.
