Manipur security forces bust drug hauls

Between May 22 and 23, Manipur saw a number of noteworthy law enforcement events as police and security forces stepped up their operations around the state, resulting in huge drug seizures, militant operative arrests, and heightened security monitoring. On May 23, police detained 46-year-old Chigenvung from her Churachandpur District home and confiscated 25 soap cases that contained a cell phone, Rs 8 lakh in cash, and 289 grams of suspected brown sugar.

On May 22, security personnel detained 52-year-old Doukholet Hanghal from Churachandpur PS’s Mongkot Khopi village. 870 kg of brown sugar worth about Rs 1.74 crore, 260 grams of suspected heroin worth about Rs 52 lakh, Rs 29.5 lakh in cash purportedly obtained from drug trafficking, two Baofeng radio sets, a cell phone, and an Aadhaar card were all seized as a result of the operation. In a different operation, Jameson Ngangbam, a 21-year-old active member of the outlawed organization PREPAK, from Imphal West District, was captured close to the Taret River in Kamjong District.

In a different measure, police conducted a special drive and took tinted glasses off of nine cars. In order to preserve law and order, security personnel also carried out massive search and area domination operations in susceptible hill and valley areas. Furthermore, stringent security measures, including convoys on hazardous sections, enabled the travel of 197 vehicles carrying necessities along NH-37. Eleven people were detained during routine checks at the 112 checkpoints that were set up throughout the state.
