Manipur security troops demolish five acres of illegal poppy growing in Churachandpur

Security troops in Manipur, working with the Forest Department, burned almost five acres of illegal poppy production in the Changpikot hill range, which is close to Kotzim village in the Churachandpur district. In the presence of the Churachandpur District Magistrate, the security forces intensified their efforts to stop illicit cultivation throughout the state. Approximately five acres of illegal poppy plants were destroyed as a result of the operation. Ten poppies were also confiscated as proof.

Opium and other extremely addictive illegal narcotics are made from poppies. Security forces demolished a six-acre illegal poppy cultivation in the Kangpokpi area of Manipur earlier this week. According to a police officer, the drive was carried out on a hill range in the vicinity of the New Keithelmanbi police station on Tuesday, between the villages of Khoripok and Sehjang. According to an official source, since 2017, the Manipur government has demolished around 20,000 acres of illegal poppy fields in at least 12 districts.
