Manipur tense as SDC Office torched in Andro Kendra

In a fresh wave of violence that has rocked Manipur, unidentified miscreants torched the Sub-Divisional Collector’s (SDC) office in Yairipok Tulihal under Andro Kendra, Imphal East district, late Sunday evening. The arson attack, which occurred around 7:45 p.m., caused extensive damage to the structure and destroyed crucial government documents. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The fire, which swiftly engulfed parts of the office, was brought under control after timely intervention by firefighting personnel. However, the loss of official records has triggered deep concern among residents and administrative authorities alike, as the SDC office serves as a key node for governance and public services in the region.

Eyewitness accounts and visuals from the site captured flames leaping through the building’s walls, with smoke billowing into the night sky. Initial damage assessments suggest that essential records, including land, revenue, and identification documents, may have been completely destroyed. Officials fear the disruption of services could significantly impact residents depending on the office for various civic needs.

In response to the attack, the Manipur police have tightened security in Yairipok Tulihal and surrounding areas. Additional forces have been deployed, and routine patrols have been intensified to deter any follow-up incidents. Authorities are urging residents to maintain calm while investigations continue.

“Preliminary inquiry points to a deliberate act of arson, but we are exploring all angles,” a senior police official told reporters. “We request the public to come forward with any information that may help us identify those responsible.”
