The Mizoram Police have detained a 23-year-old man who stole money from a government-owned gas station in Aizawl by changing the QR code sticker. H. Lalrohlua, a native of Lunglei’s Hrangchalkawn, has been identified as the suspected fraudster. He was living in the Armed Veng neighborhood of Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. The Mizoram Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, was notified of the event by the manager of Mizofed’s petrol pump in Treasury Square. The QR code sticker used for consumer transactions was reportedly swapped by unidentified criminals.
Based on the complaint, the police opened an investigation, and Lalrohlua was detained on suspicion. Lalrohlua, who had no prior criminal history, acknowledged committing the crime when questioned. The defendant copied and pasted his Google Pay QR code over the one at the gas station. Through three GPay transactions, the accused obtained Rs 2,315 and returned Rs 890 to one of the payees, using the remaining sum.
