The Mizoram government has fully utilized the ₹17.69 crore allocated for road maintenance during the 2024-25 financial year, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vanlalhlana informed the Assembly on Thursday. The minister stated that the cost of constructing 1 km of road varies based on specifications and road conditions, with an average allocation of ₹49,300 per km.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma also addressed the Assembly, highlighting the state’s adoption of a new road construction system. He revealed that the government has urged the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) to construct roads using rigid pavement, which, though costlier, has a lifespan of up to 20 years.
“Bituminous concrete is being used for road construction. Where pavers cannot be used, the traditional method will be followed,” Lalduhoma said.
