MSCW Holds Women’s Public Hearing in Chandel to Address Grievances

The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in coordination with the District Administration Chandel, District Legal Services Authority, Centre for Women and Girls, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, and One Stop Centre, under the initiative of the National Commission for Women (NCW), organized a “Mahila Jansunwai (Women’s Public Hearing)” on Friday at the Multipurpose Hall, DC Office Complex, Chandel, commemorating International Women’s Day 2026.

Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson MSCW; Sk. Sophia, Member MSCW; Hemant Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Chandel; Md Firoz Khan; Dharmendra Kumar, Superintendent of Police Chandel; O. Sukumar Singh; and Hechin Haokip, Executive Director, Centre for Women & Girls, attended the occasion as presidium members.

Addressing the gathering, Chairperson MSCW Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang stated that the Manipur State Commission for Women and the National Commission for Women organized Mahila Jansunwai (Women’s Public Hearing) across five districts of Manipur to commemorate International Women’s Day and to reinforce the collective commitment towards women’s safety, dignity, and access to justice.

She further encouraged women from different parts of the district who face harassment or other gender-related issues to come forward, raise their grievances, and seek institutional support. She appealed to women to be bold and present their issues before the commission, stating that such programs are meant to ensure meaningful assistance and timely redressal.

It may be mentioned that this platform enables women to directly voice grievances related to domestic violence, workplace harassment, maternity benefits, abandonment, trafficking, other gender-based issues, etc. As part of today’s program, a special hearing was held at the deputy commissioner’s office. Officials and legal advisors present at the program provided guidance, registered complaints, and assured support for time-bound follow-up. A large number of women attended the program, and several walk-in complaints were heard, reinforcing the commitment to ensure accessible institutional support and justice for women.

The program was attended by officials from the District Administration, including the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Chandel, representatives of the District Legal Services Authority, police personnel, officials from the One Stop Centre, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) of Chandel District, and district-level officers from various departments.
