The launch of 30 Entrepreneurship Development Centres (EDCs) and four Incubation Centres at the Northeast Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Conclave 2024 marks a pivotal step toward preserving and advancing the region’s rich cultural heritage. Led by Minister Jayant Chaudhary, the initiative is set to empower the youth, foster local craftsmanship, and create 900 startups across the northeastern states.
Held at IIM Shillong, the event focused on how traditional arts—such as bamboo craftsmanship, wood carving, and carpet weaving—can blend with modern entrepreneurial practices. By aligning these cultural skills with emerging markets, the initiative aims to create a sustainable economic ecosystem that benefits both local communities and the broader economy.
In Imphal, the initiative holds particular promise. Known for its vibrant crafts market, Imphal’s artisans can now tap into the resources provided by the EDCs to modernize their practices and scale their businesses. This could lead to the city becoming a cultural hub for innovation, where tradition meets modern entrepreneurship.
