The National Conference on Med Engage: Uniting Clinicians and Engineers for Biomedical Innovation (Med Engage: UCEBI-2026) commenced on Wednesday at Banting Hall, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal. Envisioned as a two-day academic congregation on February 18 and 19, the conference stands as a significant stride toward nurturing meaningful collaboration between clinicians and engineers, with the shared goal of advancing innovation in biomedical research and healthcare technology.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, as Chief Guest; Prof. D.V.L.N. Somayajulu, Director, National Institute of Technology Manipur, as Special Chief Guest; Prof. B.Praveen Reddy, Principal, Dental College, RIMS, as President; and Prof. N.Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, and Prof. L.Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics), RIMS, as Guests of Honour.
Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS, Imphal, said the conference, jointly organized by NIT Manipur, NIT Haryana, and General College, launches an annual biomedical innovation platform uniting clinicians and engineers to address infectious diseases, NCDs, trauma, and rural health through AI-driven, affordable solutions and student collaboration.
Prof. D.V.L.N. Somayajulu, Director of NIT Manipur, said the ANRF-sponsored two-day Med Engage 2026 conference, organized by two NITs and RIMS, advances clinician-engineer collaboration in AI-driven biomedical innovation, aligned with national missions and ₹500 crore healthcare AI funding, emphasizing skills, joint degrees, projects, partnerships, and the ANRF Prime Minister Professorship award. The programme was attended by clinicians, engineers, researchers, academicians, distinguished guests, faculty members, students, and representatives from healthcare, reflecting strong interdisciplinary participation and a shared commitment to advancing biomedical innovation.
