Nirmala Sitharaman, minister of finance, promises government support to exporters

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assured a Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) delegation that the government is fully supporting them during this period of global market uncertainty brought on by the US tariff crisis. Protecting workers’ livelihoods is crucial, and Sitharaman urged business executives to reassure them that their jobs will continue even in the face of global challenges. In order to maintain growth momentum and preserve India’s resilience in global commerce, she reaffirmed that the government will provide exporters with all-encompassing assistance.

She emphasized that the government will take all necessary steps to protect the interests of the exporting community and is dedicated to resolving all of their concerns. Under the leadership of its president, S.C. Ralhan, the FIEO delegation informed the finance minister of the difficulties Indian exporters are facing as a result of the US tariff increase. Ralhan brought up the pressing issues facing the exporting community during the conversation, including the negative effects of increased tariffs on competitiveness, market access, and job creation.

In order to ease the burden on India’s exporters, who have been important contributors to growth and job creation, he emphasized the necessity of swift and well-timed legislative actions. He stated that the FIEO reiterated its commitment to collaborating closely with the government in order to overcome present obstacles, expand export markets, and improve India’s standing in international commerce. Prior to Friday, the US government imposed an additional 25% duty on items of Indian origin, increasing total duties on many export categories to 50%. The FIEO has previously voiced serious concerns about this move.
